What is an Incremental Backup?

An incremental backup only copies changes since the last backup.  It is the most efficient type of backup, since it uses less space than both full and differential backups.  It is also quicker than a differential backup.  However, it requires the most time to perform a full recovery.  This is because the backup software must process the last full backup, plus all incremental backups up to the restoration point.
