How to Uninstall Carbonite on Android

The Carbonite mobile app can be hard to uninstall.  If you try to uninstall it using the official Carbonite instructions, it might not work.  This is because the Carbonite app installs itself as a device administrator, which is needed for the “remote wipe” feature.  This leaves the Uninstall button grayed out in the Apps section of your Android device.

Also, if you try to deactivate it in the Google Play store, you might encounter this error:

“This app is a device administrator and must be deactivated before uninstalling.”

How do you uninstall the it then?

Steps to Uninstall Carbonite on Android

  1. Open your Settings screen
    Tap Settings
  2. Choose “Security”
    Tap Security
  3. Scroll down and tap “Device administrators”
    Tap Device administrators
  4. Untick the Carbonite app from the device administrators list
    Untick Carbonite
  5. Go to Settings > Apps
    Tap Apps
  6. Choose the Carbonite app
    Tap Carbonite Mobile
  7. Click Uninstall
    Tap Uninstall

That’s it!  The Carbonite app is now uninstalled.  If you want to re-install it, you can always do so from the Google Play store.
