G Cloud Backup Review (with 10% Off Coupon)

G Cloud Backup is an app that can backup all your Android’s data.  Unlike many other backup apps, it uploads your data encrypted to the cloud.  It was developed by Genie9 corporation, and it uses the same cloud storage that powers Zoolz for PC.  This makes G Cloud Backup ideal for automatic, effortless backups that are also secure.

Pros

G Cloud Backup app

  • Easily backs up contacts, photos, videos, music, documents, and more
  • 1GB free space
  • Secure; data stored encrypted

Cons

  • 1GB space fills up quickly

The Bottom Line

G Cloud Backup provides effortless, automatic backups for Android devices.  However, the 1GB of free space isn’t enough for average users.

Using G Cloud Backup

I was impressed with the G Cloud interface; it’s very easy to setup a new backup job.  Installing the app and signing up for an account took less than a minute.  Once I selected the data I wanted to backup, the app quickly backed up my data to the cloud.

The main screen shows you how much space you’ve used, when your last backup was, etc.

One feature I really liked was the Android notifications.  G Cloud Backup will notify you when your backup runs, so you never have to worry “when was my last backup?”  It will also display other notifications, such as when space is full.

The free plan comes with 1GB of storage space.  If your selection exceeds your available space, you’ll be warned to upgrade or earn more free space.

The default schedule is to run backups:

  • Daily
  • and when connected to WiFi
  • and when battery level is above 25%

If all the above conditions aren’t met, backups won’t run!  However, you can change the settings to your liking.  G Cloud Backup is very customizable in that sense.

Features

Backup Multiple Devices

You’re able to backup as many devices as you want under a single account (including the free plan).  Each device is listed separately under your account, so you can narrow down each file you want to restore.

Find My Android

G Cloud Backup is able to locate your lost Android device using the tracking service on their website.

Encryption

The app encrypts all your data using 256-bit AES encryption, so only you can view your files.

Earn Up to 10GB Free

G Cloud Backup lets you earn more space by completing various tasks, such as referring friends.  You can also buy an extra 1GB of space for a one time fee of $0.99, or 4GB for $2.99 (both last for the lifetime of the account).

More Space?  Go Unlimited

G Cloud Backup offers an unlimited storage upgrade for $1.99/month.  The unlimited plan also removes the ads, and offers premium support.

Cloud Gallery

You can browse your backed up photos right from the app.

Limitations

If there’s one complaint I have about G Cloud Backup it’s that 1GB really isn’t enough free space.  Since most phones hold many gigabytes of data, it’s just not enough for backing up music and video collections.  It makes upgrading to the unlimited plan practically a requirement, unless you’re just backing up a small amount of photos.
