SurDoc announced today that they will be shutting down their service on May 31, 2016. This follows a string of recent closures in the cloud storage industry, starting with Copy.com and Bitcasa Drive earlier this year.
In an email sent to subscribers and in a notice posted on their website, the company cited a fast moving cloud industry as the reason for the closure. All consumer plans will be discontinued, in order to focus attention on their enterprise services.
Cancellations of paid plans are starting immediately. Refunds will be given for any customers that have paid for service beyond the May 31 deadline. SurDoc says it may take up to 2 weeks to process refunds.
All files will be deleted on May 31st, 2016 at 23:59 PDT. Users are advised to download their files immediately to avoid any data loss.

SurDoc’s TruPrivacy technology enabled zero-knowledge privacy for files stored on their service. They were the only cloud storage service to use convergent encryption after Bitcasa Drive was discontinued. With both of them gone, no cloud storage service uses convergent encryption.
However, there are many zero-knowledge providers ready to take SurDoc’s place. Some of them include MEGA, SpiderOak ONE, Sync.com, and Tresorit.
